The aim of the British Council is a world of societies whose citizens and institutions contribute to a more inclusive, open and prosperous world.

The British Council works in partnerships to support the development of people and societies, touching the lives of millions of people around the world every year. In so doing, we span the gap between individuals and states; the established and the emergent; the institution and innovation. In Sweden our work is concentrated on solutions to contemporary societal challenges. What can the UK and Sweden learn from each other? We aim to co-create with partners from various sectors of society in Sweden and the UK to deliver projects and present best practices for inspiration.

We currently run two global British Council projects in Sweden: Empowering European Citizens and Our Shared Europe.

Through our work we:

• Develop the skills of potential and existing community leaders, enabling them to respond to global and local agendas and to make a difference
• Create opportunities to discuss and share perspectives on issues such as diversity, migration, community cohesion, pluralism, as well as inter-cultural and inter-faith dialogue.
• Contribute to ensuring secure and stable societies in which young people can prosper through access to skills for employment and social enterprise.
